Couch Critic: Lincoln

November 27, 2012 Film Reviews

4 out of 5 stars

In Brief

It’s slow, quite long, and the action is nearly only in prose, but Day-Lewis’ complete embodiment of Abraham Lincoln is remarkable. The only thing reminding us that this isn’t actually footage of the tallest president of the U.S. is that we’ve all seen DDL do this before and thus recognize him in his transcendent ability. He is outstanding and Oscar-worthy in the midst of a deliberate, and very nearly uninspiring film, save for the ethical importance of its historical time.
